Testimony

Hey Joel and Casey, I just finished reading your book yesterday (I read it in a day!). I wanted to share my thoughts on the book to encourage you guys! First of all, I may be only 20 but I have over a year of experience working at a Christian bookstore and have had the chance to browse through many, many books :) I have to say that of all the ones I’ve seen or read about what a Godly courtship should look like, yours is up at the top! It wasn’t some self-help type book, it was biblical and pure. I was really glad to hear about how you went to the extremes in your courtship as you shared in your book- no holding hands until engagement, no riding in the car together after dark, no kiss til the altar, etc. These are things that I really want to do myself and seeing another couple who has already done it encouraged me. Also, when I decided that I wanted to have those kinds of boundaries, I almost thought that my future husband would think I was being ridiculous with it. But now that God led you both together and you both had that perspective, I’m sure God can bring a guy with the same standard to me, too! My favorite part was reading your and Casey’s testimonies of how you came from a broken family and came to know God. Casey’s testimony especially touched my heart because I grew up with an alcoholic mother who brought home strange guys every day/week as well. When Casey wrote that she wanted her mom to just for once choose her children over a guy, I truly understood because I’ve always told myself that my mom never chooses me over a beer bottle or a guy and I have 3 brothers too. I was really encouraged that Casey is now close to her mother, which is what I keep praying for with my mom. :) I was really amazed at how God spared both of your guys’ purity despite all that you have been through. You both could’ve easily come up with excuses to live a life of sin, but He saved you guys and you are following Him. I was really blessed by your book and it wasn’t hard at all to keep reading it all day! :) I’m going to give it to a girl who is a sophomore in high school. I almost think you guys should make a parent’s guide to go along with it so parents can go through it with their teens! Thanks so much for living out the example to follow God in relationships!!
